Acres of Diamonds Afghans + Pillow Pattern Set

This month, Carol Hegar from Shady Lane Original Crochet Designs has given us a copy of her Acres of Diamonds Afghans + Pillow Pattern set to review and a second copy to giveaway to one of my readers!

I really love this design. It reminds me of a quilt my Grandparents used to have on their spare bed. I love the texture created by the stitch and how the finished afghan looks in a single yarn color.

This 7-page ePattern is written in U.S. Crochet Terms. Graphs are also provided for each of the designs.

These patterns use only simple crochet stitches. The stitches used are single crochet (sc) and double crochet (dc). You will also need to be able to recognize the front and back loops of a stitch.

The easy, classic design is created by crocheting single crochet stitches in the back loop of a stitch and making double crochet stitches in the remaining front loop of the stitch 2 rows below.

The dropped double crochet technique is super easy-to-do and Carol has prepared a helpful video tutorial here, to demonstrate it.

You will find the full abbreviations list, important pattern notes and a diagram to illustrate hook placement for working dc stitches in a stitch 2 rows below, on page 2. Page 2 also provides 3 options for the Afghan Fringe for the project.

The instructions included are for 2 different afghan sizes (adult and baby) and a 12-inch square pillow.

Acres of Diamonds Afghan – Adult Size

• 5.5 mm (I) crochet hook (or size needed for gauge)
• Gauge: 7 sc and 7 sc rows = 2 inches
• Worsted Weight Yarn [4]: 60 oz in your chosen color
• Finished Size: approximately 42 inches X 59 inches
• Stitch multiple provided to allow you to resize your afghan
• Written instructions included
• Graph included

Acres of Diamonds Afghan – Baby Size

• 3.75 mm (F) crochet hook (or size needed for gauge)
• Gauge: 4 sc and 5 sc rows = 1 inch
• Baby Weight Yarn [3]: 14 oz in your chosen color
• Finished Size: approximately 30 inches X 41 inches
• Stitch multiple provided to allow you to resize your afghan
• Written instructions included
• Graph included

Acres of Diamonds Pillow – 12 inch square

• 5.5 mm (I) crochet hook (or size needed for gauge)
• Gauge: 7 sc and 7 sc rows = 2 inches
• Worsted Weight Yarn [4]: 7 oz in your chosen color
• Finished Size: approximately 12 inches X 12 inches
• Written instructions included
• Graph included

Dear Crochet Friend,

Acres of Diamonds is a good beginner pattern, very easy to do. The classic design forms a solid diamond centered within a larger continuous diamond outline. Instructions included are for a 42″ x 59″ afghan, a 30″ x 41″ baby afghan and a 12″ square pillow. Instructions include the written pattern plus optional graph. I personally love the graph format as the design is all laid out for you and you can see what it looks like. But some prefer a row-by-row written pattern with number of sc, or dc to work, so we include that as well.
