A Peaceful Moment Slouch Hat Pattern
Supplies
- Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Yarn. 7 oz (198 g) and 364 yds (333 m). 100% Acrylic. Medium Weight Yarn [4]. Machine wash and dry.
- Colors: 1 skein each in White
- Hook: 4 mm (G) and 5.5 mm (I)
- Finished Project Yardage: Hat g / yds
- Scissors, Yarn Needle, Stitch Marker

Finished Sizes
Hats sizes are available for 12 mos-3 years, Small Child (3-5 years), Child (6-10 years), Adult Small (Teen), Adult Medium and Adult Large. Measurements are provided in the instructions below.
Gauge
4 mm (G) hook: Approximately 10 sc per 2 inches and 9 rows per 2 inches.
5.5 mm (I) hook: Approximately 2 rows worked in pattern (R2 and R3) per inch. Approximately 3 stitch sets per 2 inches. Each stitch set equals [2-dc-cl and (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc)].
You can substitute any yarn and hook for this stitch pattern – just remember when you substitute if your gauge is different, the finished size, and amount of yarn used for your project will also be different.

2-dc-cl – 2 double crochet cluster
beg – beginning
BL – back loop
ch – chain
ch2sp – chain 2 space
hdc – half double crochet
R – row
RS – right side (good side)
rem – remaining
rep – repeat
sc – single crochet
sk – skip
sl st – slip stitch
st/sts – stitch/stitches
* to **– Repeat the instructions between the asterisks the number of times indicated. This repeat will contain multiple instructions.
[] – at the end of the row – the total number of stitches
() – important notes AND sets of stitches to be worked within one stitch, or space
Special Stitches
2 Double Crochet Cluster (2-dc-cl)
Yarn over, insert your hook into the specified st, yarn over and pull up 1 loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook. You have 2 loops on your hook. Yarn over, insert your hook into the same stitch, yarn over and pull up 1 loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook. You have 3 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through rem 3 loops.
Note: The 2-dc-cl is basically the same as a dc2tog worked all in a single stitch.

A Peaceful Moment Slouch Hat Pattern Instructions
We begin by crocheting the hat band, back and forth in rows, before working the body of the hat. The hat body is crocheted in joined rounds, where we turn at the end of every row. The top of the hat is shaped slightly before being finished. You may easily increase or decrease the hat height.
12 mos – 3 years Slouch Hat Pattern
To Fit: 20 inch head circumference
Slouch Height: 8-inches
12 mos – 3 years| Hat Band Instructions
Using your 4 mm (G) hook (or size required for gauge):
R1: Leave a 10 inch tail of yarn and ch 9, sk 1 ch, 1 sc in each rem st across, ch 1, turn [8]
R2: 1 sc in the first st, 1 sc in the bl of each of the next 6 sts, 1 sc in the last st, ch 1, turn [8]
R3-61: Rep R2
The hat band measures approximately 14-inches in length and 1.6 inches in width.
Do not finish off.
Using your 5.5 mm (I) hook (or size required for gauge):
Ch 1, and begin working along the row ends. Work 60 sc evenly across the row ends. Sl st to the first sc to join.
You may wish to place a stitch marker in the active loop on your hook before seaming the band closed.
Do not finish off; continue to Hat Body Instructions after you seam the band closed.
Using the 10-inch tail of yarn close the band with a whip stitch seam between R1 and R60.
Finish off and weave in ends.

Finishing Instructions

R3-85: Rep R2
Do not finish off.
The hat band measures approximately 19.5-inches in length and 2 inches in width.
Using your 5.5 mm (I) hook (or size required for gauge):
Ch 1, and begin working along the row ends. Work 84 sc evenly across the row ends. Sl st to the first sc to join.
You may wish to place a stitch marker in the active loop on your hook before seaming the band closed.
Do not finish off; continue to Hat Body Instructions after you seam the band closed.
