A Peaceful Moment Scarf Pattern

A Peaceful Moment Scarf is a beginner-friendly, one-skein scarf that can be crocheted with 1 ball of Medium Weight Yarn [4] and a 6 mm (J) hook.

The finished scarf is absolutely lovely and I’ve added some long tassels (which are totally optional) to my scarf because I find it calming to run those lengths of yarn between my fingers.

This solid white scarf, with small open spaces and a pretty stitch pattern, is calming to crochet.

Supplies

• Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver Yarn. 7 oz (198 g) and 364 yds (333 m). 100% Acrylic. Medium Weight Yarn [4]. Machine wash and dry.
• Colors: 1 skein each in White 
• Hook: 6 mm (J).
• Finished Project Yardage: Scarf: 198 g / 364 yds
• Scissors, Yarn Needle, Stitch Marker

Difficulty Level

Easy

Finished Size

Scarf length approximately 80 inches X 6 inches width (fringe adds 14 inches)

Gauge

Approximately 5 rows per 3 inches and 4 sts per 1 inch

You can substitute any yarn and hook for this stitch pattern – just remember when you substitute if your gauge is different, the finished size, and amount of yarn used for your project will also be different.

Abbreviations

US Terminology used

2-dc-cl – 2 double crochet cluster

beg – beginning

BB – back bar

ch – chain

ch2sp – chain 2 space

hdc – half double crochet

R – row

rem – remaining

rep – repeat

sc –  single crochet

sk – skip

sl st – slip stitch

st/sts – stitch/stitches

* to **– Repeat the instructions between the asterisks the number of times indicated. This repeat will contain multiple instructions.

[] – at the end of the row – the total number of stitches

() – important notes AND sets of stitches to be worked within one stitch, or space

Special Stitches

2 Double Crochet Cluster (2-dc-cl)

Yarn over, insert your hook into the specified st, yarn over and pull up 1 loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook. You have 2 loops on your hook. Yarn over, insert your hook into the same stitch, yarn over and pull up 1 loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on your hook. You have 3 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through rem 3 loops.

Note: The 2-dc-cl is basically the same as a dc2tog worked all in a single stitch.

A Peaceful Moment Scarf Pattern Instructions

A Peaceful Moment Scarf is crocheted lengthwise in rows, after R1.

Using your 6 mm (J) hook (or size required for gauge):

Note: R1 is crocheted around the foundation chain. Please see the images at the bottom of the post for assistance. 

R1: Ch 248, (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in the fifth ch from the hook. The sk 4 chs count as 1 hdc and a ch 2. *Sk the next 2 chs, 2-dc-cl in the next ch, sk the next 2 chs, (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in the next ch**. Rep from * to ** across to the last 3 chs. Sk the next 2 chs and then ch 3. 

Rotate your project to crochet into the side edge of the foundation chain; work 1 sc in the side edge and ch 3. Rotate your work to continue across the bottom of the foundation chain. ♥Sk the next 2 chs, (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in the next ch, sk the next 2 chs, 2 dc-cl in the next ch♥♥. Rep from ♥ to ♥♥ across to the last 4 chs. Work 1 hdc in the next ch. Sk the last 3 chs. Turn. [1 sc, 330 hdc, 80 2-dc-cl, 82 ch2sp, 2 ch3sp]

The rest of the scarf is crocheted back and forth in rows.

R2: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc). *(2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in next ch2sp, 1 sc in the next 2-dc-cl**. Rep from * to ** across to the last ch2sp. Work (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in the last ch2sp, 1 hdc in the top of the initial ch 2. Turn.  [204 sc, 2 hdc, 41 ch2sp]

R3: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc). *(2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in next ch2sp, 2-dc-cl in the next sc**. Rep from * to ** across to the last ch2sp. Work (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in the last ch2sp, 1 hdc in the top of the initial ch 2. Turn. [166 hdc, 40 2-dc-cl, 41 ch2sp] 

R4: Ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc). *(2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in next ch2sp, 1 sc in the next 2-dc-cl**. Rep from * to ** across to the last ch2sp. Work (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in the last ch2sp, 1 hdc in the top of the initial ch 2. Turn.  [204 sc, 2 hdc, 41 ch2sp]

R5- R10: Rep R3 and R4

Finishing Instructions:

Finish off and weave in both yarn ends.

If you would like to add the optional fringe, cut 96 strands of yarn, each measuring 16 inches in length. Make 12 piles with 8-strands in each pile. Tie 6 fringe sections (with 8-strands in each strand), equally spaced, at the ends of the scarf.  Trim the ends to uniform length.
