A Granny Square Pajama Pillow.

The first in a series of projects using small solid granny squares in the design.
This is a cute and quick to make little pillow, perfect for keeping a little one’s pajamas warm and cozy until needed 🙂

A Granny Square Pajama Pillow

Skill Level:

Easy

Materials:

  • 50 grams of light weight worsted yarn in cream
  • Small amounts of medium weight worsted yarn in yellow, blue, and pink
  • Small amount of black and white yarn for embroidery
  • Size 3.50 mm Hook
  • 1 Flower button or any other suited button for nose (optional)
  • Yarn Needle
  • Stitch Marker

Abbreviations:

sc – single crochet

dc – double crochet

hdc – half double crochet

tc – treble crochet

sl st – slip stitch

 

Gauge: Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect

Finished Size:

Approx 16 cm in width and 30 cm in length

 

Instructions:

Note: For best results whip stitch small squares together, if prefer you can single crochet squares together but that might prove challenging when adding eyes and wings.

 

Small Solid Granny Square:

Make 7 squares of each color (7 blue, 7 pink and 7 yellow)

 

Make a magic ring

Rnd 1:  CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 2 DC into ring, *CH2, work 3 DC into ring. Repeat from * 2 more times, SL ST into top of 3rd CH

Rnd 2:  CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into each DC, work 2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC  into each corner. SL ST into top of 3rd CH
Fasten off and weave in all ends.

 

Creating The Pillow:

Whip stitch squares together as shown in photo, alternating colors.

Weave in all ends.

Join cream yarn into the first corner of the top 3 square row

Row 1 : Work up 27 single crochet across the top row ( 27 SC), turn

Row 2 – 64: CH1, work 1 SC into each ST until end (27 SC)
Fasten off on last row and weave in ends

Starting at the bottom pinch the two sides together and Single Crochet together, work 1 SC into each ST making sure to work the corresponding row at the same time. When you reach the top work only into the solid granny squares – 1 SC into each ST until end, pinch the two sides together again and Single Crochet together.

Three sides are now closed and there is an opening at the top 🙂

 

The Eyes:

Make 2

This part is made by working in continuous rounds, so you may want to use a stitch marker to keep record of your current rnd.

Make a magic ring

Rnd 1: Work 6 SC into the ring. Place a stitch marker in the last SC to designate the end of the rnd.

Rnd 2: Work 2 SC in each ST around (12 SC). Move Maker

Rnd 3: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next ST. Repeat from * around (18 SC). Move Maker

Rnd 4: *Work 2 SC in first ST and 1 SC in next two STS. Repeat from * around (24 SC). Move Maker

Rnd 5: Work 1 SC into next ST, work 1 HDC into next ST, work 2 DC into next, ST, work 2 DC into next ST, work 1 HDC into next ST, work 1 SC into next ST, SL ST into each ST all around until the last SC of this round. Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

 

With black yarn embroider long straight stitches onto eyes and with white yarn embroider a few short stitches – use photo as guide.

 

Sew eyes onto pillow.

 

The Wings:

Make 2

Make a magic ring

Row 1: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 7 DC into ring, turn (8 DC)

Row 2: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into same ST, work 2 DC into each ST until end, turn (16 DC)

Row 3: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into same ST, work 1 DC into next ST. * Work 2 DC into next ST, work 1 DC into next ST. Repeat from * until end. (24 DC)

Row 4: work as follows-

SL ST into next 3 STS,

work 1 SC and 1 HDC into next ST,

work 4 DC into next ST,

work 1 HDC and 1 SC into next ST,

SL ST into next 4 STS,

work 1 SC and 1 HDC into next ST,

work 2 DC  and 1 TR into next ST,

work 1 TR and 2 DC into next ST,

work 1 HDC and 1 SC into next ST,

SL ST into next 4 STS,

work 1 SC and 1 HDC into next ST,

work 4 DC into next ST,

work 1 HDC and 1 SC into next ST,

SL ST into next 3 STS.

continue along the bottom part of wing:

work 3 SC into each row, work 1 SC into magic ring, work 3 SC into each row.

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing.

Sew wings into position.

Sew a Flower or other button for nose.
