A Granny Square Crochet Booklet | Guest Contributor Post
The second in a series of projects using small solid granny squares in the design.
This is a very quick and easy booklet to make.
A convenient traveling hook/needle carry all 🙂
I made this specially to fit into my suitcase for when we are visiting my family!
Granny Square Crochet Booklet
Skill Level:

Materials:
- 25grams of light weight worsted yarn in cream and aqua
- Small amounts of light weight worsted yarn in yellow
- Size 3.50 mm Hook
- 4 small buttons (optional)
- Yarn Needle
- Stitch Marker
Abbreviations:
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
hdc – half double crochet
sl st – slip stitch
Gauge: Tension/Gauge is not necessary for this project to be perfect
Finished Size:
Closed: approx 18 cm x 18 cm
Open: approx 35 cm x 18 cm
Instructions:
Small Solid Granny Square:
Make 9 squares
Make a magic ring with yellow yarn
Rnd 1: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 2 DC into ring, *CH2, work 3 DC into ring. Repeat from * 2 more times, SL ST into top of 3rd CH
change color to aqua
Rnd 2: CH3 (counts as 1 DC), work 1 DC into each DC, work 2 DC, 2 CH, 2 DC into each corner. SL ST into top of 3rd CH
change color to cream
Rnd 3: CH1, work 1 SC into each ST, work 3 SC into each corner, SL ST into first SC
Fasten off and weave in all ends
Each granny square measures approx 5½ cm x 5½ cm
Whipstitch each of the granny square together to form a bigger block of 3 x 3 granny’s in a row
Work up 32 SC along one side of the big block
and work 40 rows in single crochet
(Row 2- 40: CH 1, work 1 SC into each ST until end, turn (32 SC) )
Do not cut yarn after last row, continue up the side as follows:
Border:
*Work 1 SC and 1 HDC into next row,
work 2 DC into next row,
work 1 HDC and 1 SC into next row,
work 1 SL ST into next row.
Repeat from * until you reach the granny squares
*Work 1 SC and 1 HDC into next ST,
work 2 DC into next ST,
work 1 HDC and 1 SC into next ST,
work 1 SL ST into next ST.
Repeat from * all around until you reach the solid single crochet piece and repeat from the start.
Note: remember the space between granny’s counts as a stitch!
Hook Pocket:
With aqua yarn CH 31
Row 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook, work 1 SC into each ST until end (30 SC), turn
Row 2- 15: CH 1 , work 1 SC into each ST until end (30 SC), turn
fasten off after last row and keep a tail for sewing.
Sew pocket onto booklet use photo as guide
I made little stitches in between my crochet hooks to create separate compartments for each.
Stitch Marker Strip:
With cream yarn CH 26
Row 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook, work 1 SC into each ST until end (25 SC), turn
Row 2- 7: CH 1 , work 1 SC into each ST until end (25 SC), turn
fasten off after last row and keep a tail for sewing.
Paper Strip:
With yellow yarn CH 26
Row 1: Work 1 SC into 2nd CH from hook, work 1 SC into each ST until end (25 SC), turn
Row 2- 5: CH 1 , work 1 SC into each ST until end (25 SC), turn
fasten off after last row and keep a tail for sewing.
Sew strips onto booklet.
Optional – sew button onto the front of the booklet 🙂
