A Crochet Bucket List Project – Amamani aka Crochet Amigurumi Amish Puzzle Animal Patterns
Dedri has created a unique assortment of Amamani Designs – from lovely Gregor (above) to a fascinating Octopus! She has also just released Chloe the Crochet Cow Puzzle and she has more Designs on the way!
These Amamani Designs are actually crocheted as three separate ‘puzzle’ piece segments that can be assembled (and disassembled) to make an amigurumi animal!
Or, if you prefer, you can stitch them into one solid piece.
I prefer the puzzle myself! I mean…that is what makes these Designs so unique.
To learn more about how these lovelies are assembled please read Dedri’s blog post: Amamani. She includes photographs showing the three separate pieces of Gregor before they were assembled.
I was lucky enough that Dedri was interested in doing a ‘pattern swap’ with me – one of mine for one of hers – although I think I got the better end of this deal 😉
I have been wanting to try one of these patterns since I first ‘stumbled’ across them online last winter. Although, I was a little bit nervous…I had never even heard of a Amish Puzzle Ball until I saw her designs! I wasn’t exactly sure what I would be getting myself into 😉
Dedri’s pattern is extremely well written. She also included photos to help visualize the instructions.
When I was done crocheting all the segments and I had this tidy little pile of pieces beside me I have to admit I started to get a wee bit nervous…how was I ever going to get these assembled?
Well there was a fabulous trick to it! and it did NOT involve a needle and thread!!! Yeah!
For my Gregor, I used Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Yarn (Worsted Weight) and a 4.50 mm hook – as a result, my Gregor is a wee bit bigger than Dedri’s original Design. I also used safety eyes instead of buttons.
Here is my Gregor (oh I love my Gregor!)
Well…he was mine until Drew saw him…now he is his ‘Gregger’ 😉
Some of the other animals currently included in the Amamani Design Collection are Eleanor (elephant), Olive (Octopus), Skillie (Turtle), Hermione (Horse), Dino (Dinosaur), Gemina (Giraffe), Kiwi (Kiwi Bird), Fin (Fish), Brill (Lion), Chloe (Cow) and of course Gregor (Rhinosaur). To see all these lovelies you can follow this link to her Ravelry Design Page.
