Meet Catherine from Crochet Cloudberry
Hej! I am Cat from CrochetCloudberry.co.uk. I live in the North East of England with my partner and our rescue cat Trixie. During the day, I work as a translator from German, while at night I crochet. My blog is my happy place where I share free crochet patterns and my musings about crochet.
I learned to crochet as an adult and just fell in love with it and was quickly an addict. Around three years ago, I began designing and set up my website to share my patterns. I have been lucky enough to contribute patterns to several UK magazines and to have worked on blog hops and collaborative projects with wonderful bloggers from the crochet community.
At the moment, my main project is the 2021 crochet pattern, where I release a couple of rounds of a pattern each week until the blanket is complete at the end of the year. I am also adding smaller patterns throughout the year.
If you want to stay in touch to see new designs you can follow me on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/crochet_cloudberry) or Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/CrochetCloudberry) or join my regular mail list (generally once per month) (https://crochetcloudberry.co.uk/about/crochet-cloudberry-newletter-sign-up/).
The Pattern
The retro square pattern was based on a cute tea set from the 70s that I found in a charity shop. I loved the bright greens and different shades of brown, colours that now often do not appear together and from then I just wanted to make something in those colours. The pattern is based on a granny square and is worked in the round. I have used 3D stitches to pick out the flowery details on the cups and plates. This is the first in a series of four squares – the others will be released at the start of 2022.

Notes
- The 70s Retro Square is worked in the round. You do not need to turn your work after each round and you continue working in the same direction as before.
- Join each round with a slip stitch.
- [ ] Stitches written in brackets like this are all worked into the same stitch.
For the first stitch on each row:
- Chain 1 to move up to the next round if the round starts with double crochet.
- Chain 2 if the round starts with a half treble crochet, and chain 3 if the round starts with a treble crochet.
These chains count as the first stitch in the row.
