7 Textured Snowflake Potholders Patterns

This month, Carol Hegar from Shady Lane Original Crochet Designs has given us a copy of her 7 Textured Snowflake Potholders ePattern to review and a second copy to giveaway to one of my lucky readers!

This 18-page ePattern includes crochet instructions for 7 different crochet snowflake potholders. The patterns are provided in U.S. Crochet Terms and optional graphs have been provided for each of the designs.

These snowflake potholders are crocheted using simple stitches, just chains (ch), slip stitches (sl st), single crochet (sc) and double crochet (dc) stitches. You will also need to be able to recognize the back loops and front loops of a stitch.

You will find the full abbreviations list, instructions for the edging, the back pieces of the potholders and the important information section on pages 10 and 11.

The backgrounds of these designs are created by working single crochet stitches in the back loop only. The snowflake designs are created by crocheting dc stitches into the remaining front loop of a stitch made 2 rows before. The front of the potholders are worked on one side only, which means you do not turn your work and you finish off at the end of each row.

The dropped double crochet technique is super easy-to-do and the finished potholders look fantastic! To learn how to do the easy dropped dc method, Carol has prepared a helpful video tutorial here.

The backs of the potholders are crocheted in the traditional manner, working single crochet stitches and turning at the end of each row. You will find the written instructions for the BACK PIECE on page 11.

7 Textured Snowflake Potholders

  • 4 mm (G) hook (or size needed for gauge; gauge: 4 sc and 4 rows = 1″)
  • Worsted, Medium Weight [4] Cotton Yarn is recommended for heat durability
  • finished measurement approximately 8-inches X 8-inches

Create 7 different snowflake potholders with your choice of two options–use a single color which works up super fast or the dramatic 2-color version with a white snowflake against a solid color background. Double sided, the textured snowflake design is formed by dropped dc stitches worked in front loop of stitch 2 rows below. Made using worsted yarn in your choice of cotton or acrylic. Each potholder is about 8″ square. Written instructions and optional graphs are included. Easy to intermediate skill level.

  1. I really love these potholders. I immediately felt that her Teddy Bear Afghan and Pillow is my ‘new’ favorite, but honestly, I love a lot of her designs.

  2. Thanks for the opportunity to win these beautiful potholder patterns. I would like to make them one day.

    Thanks again!!

  3. The Shadylane pattern I like the most is the Native American Afghan. It’s really difficult choosing a favorite because all of her patterns are simply beautiful. I guess because of the designs on the afghan it grabs my attention the most.

  4. I love the granada afghan. I have always wanted to do mosaic crochet.
    Good Luck All !!!!
