Wildlife Cable Afghans Book Review
Choose from four different animal silhouettes for your center panel (a moose, a bear, a deer, or a wolf) and then choose your side panels to create your own gorgeous wildlife cable afghan!
This gives you lots of different combinations you can choose from, when you are making your own blanket.
The Wildlife Cable Afghan is listed as an Intermediate Difficulty Level and the finished size of the afghan is 35.5 inches X 44.75 inches (90 cm X 113.5 cm). The afghan is crocheted with medium weight yarn [4] and sizes 5 mm (H) and 5.5 mm (I) hooks.
Since you will be assembling different sections together it is a good idea to make the 2 Gauge Swatches provided on page 3.
The Center Panels
Finished size: 21 inches X 30.25 inches (53.5 cm X 77 cm)
For the center panel, you need to choose the animal you are going to crochet. The center panel is crocheted following a chart and the instructions telling you how to read the charts are included on page 6. The charts are worked in half double crochet stitches. You use the smaller size hook for the center panels. The larger size hook is used to add the border to the center panel.
- Wolf
- Bear
- Moose
- Deer
Corner Squares
You will need to make 4 corner squares. There are four different corner square patterns included and you can mix-and-match or make all four the same for your blanket. The corner square patterns are included on pages 10-15. The corner squares are crocheted with the larger size hook.
Side Panels
The panels are written in 2 lengths. You will need to make 2 short panels and 2 long panels from the 4 different panel patterns provided. The short and long panels are crocheted with the larger size hook.
- Short Panel Instructions are in Blue
- Long Panel Instructions are in Pink
- Instructions in Black apply to both the short and long panels
The short panels measure 6.75 inches X 21 inches (17 cm X 30.25 cm) and the long panels measure 6.75 inches X 53.5 inches (17 cm X 77 cm)

Thanks for the great review. I have seen this book and have been on the fence on ordering it. Your review has swayed my decision.
Thank you so much for your review on the Wild Life Afghans. I have this on my next order and I have several family members that love different animals that is included in this booklet. And I didn’t know that you could mix and match the top and sides. So these can be made in all different patterns.
Your review is very good. I purchased this booklet a year ago but am just know getting around to doing one. I don’t know if all the booklets have this issue or not. I have done all of my corners and panels. The main color is the darker color on the panels but on the charts for the center panel, it indicates the background is the main color. I believe that the key for the chart is reversed. I need to make sure that I am doing it correctly so that it doesn’t impact the amounts of each color of yarn I purchased according to the instructions.
i love these designs – sooo cozy looking – thanks for reviewing this = i would have never known about this e book otherwise!!
