2021 Whatever Will Be Will Be Scarf - 2021 February Scarf of the Month CAL

This month’s scarf name is actually part of my current personal mantra – a phrase that I repeat to myself each time I start to fixate on things I cannot control.

Whatever will be, will be
The future’s not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be…

Written by the team of Jay Livingston and Ray Evans, 1956.

In truth, there seems to be a lot of things that I cannot control right now so this mantra and my daily break (which is often bitterly cold and uncomfortable) outside are proving to be very beneficial to me.

I’m sure you are all wondering how making myself sit outside in the bitter cold can help my mental state of mind – well LOL I sure can’t concentrate on anything else when all I can think about is how darn COLD I am! So, my cold discomfort works to bring my focus (which is almost always internally focused) to the here-and-now freezing cold present! Then when I go back inside my mind is clear and the thoughts that had been building up are at a more manageable level again.

Wishing you warmth and sunlight. Stay strong my friends. xo Rhondda

Notes:

  • Stitch multiple is 3+2 (Understanding Stitch Multiples)
  • If you would like a longer scarf, simply repeat R2 to your desired length before adding the single crochet edging.

When I work into the foundation chain, I prefer working into the back bar (back bump) of the chain. You can work under the back loop only if you prefer.

When I worked the single crochet edging at the base of the foundation chain, instead of simply working 2 sc in the ch2sp I worked my second single crochet by catching 1 loop from the leg of the first dc and then working into the ch2sp. I did this to decrease the open space created between the foundation row and edging Row 1.

Leg of the DC and chain for Finishing

When I join my yarn to work the edging for the foundation row I use a standing stitch. You can use a slip stitch to join, chain one and then begin the instructions for the edging if you prefer.

  28. Hi Lovely pattern 🙂
However,I can’t access the ravelry free pdf pattern of this month’s scarf. I just get taken to my PayPal page & the full cost checkout. What am I doing wrong.? Thanks

  29. Hi. Thanks for all the great patterns. Today’s Whatever will be scarf does not come up as a free PDF on the Ravelry site.

  30. Hello, what a pretty scarf pattern! However, I think something is up with the free PDF option. I tried it on 2/21 at night after the announcement and this morning, 2/22. I used an iPad and a laptop, and was signed in to Ravelry and also signed out. The pattern page shows on Ravelry but with the regular price when added to cart. It said “no code needed” but the code isn’t kicking in. No worries really since the pattern is posted here as well, but thought I’d pass it on in case.

  31. Hi !!! I’m trying to get the pattern at Ravelry but I can’t get it for free. Can somebody help me please ? TIA !!!

  32. Tried to get this PDF from Ravelry today (2/22/21) and it’s not coming up as free. Do we need a code? You said (above) “Get the PDF for FREE today (February 21 – 22) from my Ravelry Shop as part of the 2021 Monthly Scarf of the Month CAL. No coupon required!” but it’s not showing up as free.

  33. Absolutely love the textures of this scarf. The pattern is not coming up as free on Ravelry however. I tried yesterday several times and this morning. Is there a code I am missing?

  34. Hello there,

The scarf pattern is not free on Ravelry. I just tried at 7:58 AM EST on 2/22/21

  35. As of now 5.42 AM (CST) February 22 this pattern can not be downloaded from Ravelry. How can I get it downloaded for free as the deadline has not been over. Thanks.

  36. Hi Rhonda, im not sure if i am doing something wrong, but the pattern is not for free on Ravelry, i checked the time as i am in a different timezone ( almost 1pm here) and it says it is almost 6am there Monday 22nd Feb 2021, have i missed the free window?

  37. This is not coming up free on Ravelry. It says $5. Can you check on this? Thanks.

  38. Hi Rhonda, your February scarf of the month was not coming up free. Thank-you

  39. Lovely scarf but it isn’t coming up as free with above download link. Also like the tip on the stitches for the edging.

  40. Hi. I can’t figure out how to get the pattern for free on ravelry. 🙂

  41. Hi. I’m here 10:29pm on Feb 21 and I added this scarf from the pdf free button…it did not show up as free.

  42. Hi Rhondda! The pattern is not coming up as free once I add it to my Ravelry cart. It is 9:58pm EST

  43. I want to confirm that there is no coupon for this because, on ravelry, when I add to cart, it isn’t free (it’s 9:54 EST on 2/21).

    Thanks.

  44. When I click the link it takes me to Ravelry but the price is not free. It says there is no code, should there be?

  45. The pattern link works but the discount does not apply on my Ravelry account when I go to purchase and your post says no coupon code needed. Help please 😍

  46. Hi,
Unfortunately, the “Free PDF” ravelry link is not coming up as free today (02/21/21, 7:11pm MT). Am I doing something wrong to get it to work?

    Thanks

  47. I love the look of this! I was really hoping to get the free pdf today 2/21/2021 @ 9:10pm. It said no coupon required, however raverly was going to chatge me when I went to check out:(

  48. This is not currently coming up free on Ravelry although it is still 2/21/21..

  49. The pattern is not coming up free when I add to the cart in Ravelry. Am I missing something? jenelehr

  50. I am trying to download the whatever will be, will be scarf pdf on Feb 21 at 8:23 pm EST on Ravelry. The price is not changing to free. Thank you.

  51. Thank you so much for all the scarf and hat patterns. Really love this one. But just to let you know it comes up that you have to pay for it unless you have a coupon code. Thank you for all you do.
