2021 Roll With It Scarf and Hat

This month for our Crochet Along, I am sharing the Roll With It Hat pattern. This bright and colorful hat matches last week’s scarf perfectly. So you can make the entire set!

This easy crochet hat pattern is crocheted back and forth in rows before being seamed into the finished hat.

Get last week’s matching Crochet Scarf Pattern for free here: 2021 Roll With it Scarf

The 2021 Roll With It Hat Pattern is available in 5 sizes, small child (age 3-5 years), child (age 6-10 years), teen, adult (medium) and adult (large).

The 2021 Roll With It Hat is worked flat, back and forth in rows. This stitch pattern is easy and it contains single crochet stitches, chain stitches and double crochet stitches. The brim is made up of front post double crochet and back post double crochet stitches. Once complete we seam the side edge and close up the top.

Notes

  • Multiple of 10 + 3 (Understanding Stitch Multiples)
  • When I work into the foundation chain, I prefer working into the back bar (back bump) of the chain. You can work under the back loop only if you prefer.
  • The turning ch 3 counts as 1 dc.
  • The turning ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
  • You may customize the hat height by working the R2 as many, or as few, times as you wish. Every 2 rounds will add almost an inch in height.

Finishing Instructions for All Hat Sizes

On a flat surface, fold your project in half widthwise; bringing the two side edges together. Thread your yarn end on a yarn needle and work through both layers; whipstitch (view tutorial here) once for each row along the edge. I work under one loop of the stitch on each edge.

Once you have finished whipstitching the side edge and you reach the foundation row, we will be closing the top of the hat using my simple closing method. This method is demonstrated here.

There may be a small hole remaining at the top of the hat for the larger sizes. I used the remaining yarn on my yarn needle to sew four stitches (across the diameter of the hole) to close the small gap that remained after closing the top. If you prefer, you may use a pom pom to hide the small hole.

Weave in any remaining ends securely.
