Personal Update:
This past week was a difficult week – but it turned out to be a good week – although I am bone weary today.
I sort of pushed my body into a ‘Ready or Not’ scenario where I made it go through some unpleasant challenges for medical reasons.
Like many of you I decided to get vaccinated and had my first shot back in April. I had very few side effects other than my really painful, red HOT injection site for about 72-hours. About 10 days later, I experienced swelling and tenderness in the injection site again for about 6-hours. Easy peasy right?
I had been concerned because of my auto-immune issues (Crohn’s Disease) that I might have some enhanced response so was relieved to only have these minor symptoms.
Fast forward to last Friday…there was an opening for a second dose, in advance of my original second dose appointment in August so I decided to take the spot and get fully vaccinated sooner. I didn’t even consider there would be an issue since my first shot of Moderna had gone so smoothly.
I was SO wrong. I went through 24-hours of extreme pain in every bone, muscle and nerve in my body. I couldn’t sleep or even rest because I kept having these awful muscle cramps in my arms and legs and I couldn’t even open my eyes if there was a bit of light in the room and even in the dark my eyes couldn’t focus. It was incredibly painful.
Then all the pain just magically vanished and the fever went away like it never happened. It was so strange. It was also extremely draining. I’m chuckling now but in the midst of it, between the pain and the crazy muscle cramps in my legs and arms, it was pretty scary!
So after that fun – I also needed to prepare for a rescheduled colonoscopy (oh fun) – which takes like a year to book here to begin with – so this meant fasting on Thursday and Friday and taking a whole bunch of gross drinks and pills to ‘cleanse’ out my pipes.
Oh and did I mention my daughter’s 12th birthday was on THURSDAY. So this was a fun juggle – thankfully she is such an amazing person she didn’t mind doing birthday cake and pizza a day early – and Dad took her for ice-cream on her real birthday and we did presents in between my mad dashes to the bathroom.
This past week felt like a huge test – a test I somehow managed to get through; even though at some points I was literally crawling forward to the finish line.
On a more positive note, this week did result in 3 good things. I am now fully vaccinated (I still need to wait a few more days to be able to say that officially – as today is the 9th day post vaccine) AND my colonoscopy showed no active Crohn’s Disease and no cancer!
Thank you God for keeping my Crohn’s Disease in remission and my body cancer free.
Blessings friends!

Notes:
- Multiple of 4 (Understanding Stitch Multiples)
- When I work into the foundation chain, I prefer working into the back bar (back bump) of the chain. You can work under the back loop only if you prefer.
- The turning ch-1 does not count as a stitch.
- You may customize the length by working the repeat of R2 as many, or as few, times as you wish.

Finishing Instructions
- Weave in ends.
- Add some optional fringe if you wish! It creates a playful edge to this lacy crochet scarf and will blow slightly in the breeze.
- To create the fringe on my scarf, I cut 160 strands of yarn, each 11.5 inches long. Then I added the fringe using this method. Trim if necessary to create an even edge.
