Teddy Bears will always remind me of comfort and safety. When I was a child, one of my first ‘baby gifts’ was a traditional teddy bear from my Nana and Gramps. That little bear is quite well-worn and loved and I suspect he was a constant companion of mine for the first few years of my life. Especially at bedtime.
When I was very sick with my Crohn’s Disease and in the hospital for the first time 20+ years ago, my boyfriend (now hubby) brought me a teddy bear that he had chosen in the gift shop downstairs. I can’t tell you how much that teddy bear means to me. The comfort and security that Bear (yes I am terrible at picking names lol) represented seems to be attached forever to his furry little face.
I think Teddy Bears are one of the best gifts for children. You can hold their hands and take them with you, snuggle with them when you are nervous and safely sleep with them and tell them your secrets.
I did a roundup a few years ago for Crocheted Bear Patterns (linked that one below for some extra free patterns for you) and thought it was about time to do a more updated Free Pattern Friday Crochet Teddy Bear Pattern Collection.
There are some SUPER cute bears we can make now and with the fun fibers that are popping up and available from the Yarn Companies we can make them as furry as we want!
