2-Hour Couch Potato Blanket
Sometimes you just need a blanket to cover your lap when you are sitting on the couch. I do most of my blogging and pattern designing sitting cross-legged on our living room couch with my laptop on a tv tray in front of me. Sometimes it can get a little bit cool and I wanted a blanket that could cover my lap but not hang off the edge of the couch and onto the floor. Here is a super quick and easy blanket I crocheted specifically for this purpose.

Notes (please read this)
I chose to crochet this in 5 colors. Each row is worked in a new color. I changed color on the last yarn over of the last single crochet of each row. Then I finished off the old yarn color, leaving a 7-inch tail of yarn. I tied the old yarn color with the new yarn color end in a double-knot (to form the fringe edge). Once completely finished I trimmed all the ends to an equal length (approximately 5.25 inches) to make them nice and neat.
The colors I used are:
Color A: Teal
Color B: Light Teal
Color C: Grey
Color D: Vintage
Color E: Grape

Finishing:
Make sure all the finishing ends (i.e the yarn you finish off at the end of a row) are tied in a double knot with the beginning ends (i.e. the yarn you change to for the next row). Then trim all the fringe ends to the same length on each side of the blanket. I trimmed mine to be 5.25-inches on each side.
Finally, look at your blanket and locate the two corners where you are missing a fringe. cut a length approximately 14-inches long in a corresponding color and tie it securely (double knot) to the corners.

How many skeins for east color
Hi Mary, No, I’m sorry. I don’t have a video tutorial for this blanket stitch. I have added it to my request list though! Thank you, Rhondda
Hi Rhonda,
I am a visual person, so do you have a tutorial of this on YouTube? I need from beginning to end:)
Tying the tails to make a fringe is really cool idea and looks great!!
Joann has it year round maybe some colors are seasonal but they always have it
Hi 🙂 It is using the same stitch pattern I used here: https://oombawkadesigncrochet.com/2016/12/old-fashioned-paperback-book-cover.html and uses a multiple of 2. Yes if you repeat R3 and R4 it will work for you if you don’t need to change colors. Hope this helps! Rhondda
That’s really pretty!
If I want to make it bigger can i add any number of chains to the foundation? or does it go by multiples or an even amount of chains etc?
Also, if I’m not changing colors I’m basically just repeating row 2 and 3?
I’m starting to think this as well Jamie – I’m going to have to see if I can make it using 2 strands of their regular yarn…
I think the bernat blanket big yarn was seasonal.
Walmart has bernat cheaper by almost $2.00 skein
I found a replica of this yarn….It’s called Yarn Bee Eternal Bliss. Hobby Lobby carries it & is cheaper than Ebay. No one seems to have the Bernat Big yarn, I’m waiting to hear back from Bernat..
So shop till you drop & enjoy!

Hi Maria, I used 5 balls. 1 of each color to make the ‘smaller’ blanket (2 hour option). Thanks 🙂 Rhondda
How many skeins did you use to crochet this blanket? Two per color?
Hi Amanda, When I purchased it I purchased it at Michaels. It seems like it is becoming hard to find though. I have found it here: https://www.michaels.com/bernat-blanket-big-stitchnwin-yarn/M10486574.html?dwvar_M10486574_color=Vintage%20White at Michaels.com.
Here is the yarn weight information from Ravelry:

Hope this helps a bit.
Rhondda
Where can I find the yarn for this project? I have tried michael and joanns, but the yarn they have seems thinner that what you have shown.
