This post is specific to the Wonder Crochet Blanket CAL, 2016. This alternate size version will allow you to create any size blanket using the stitch multiple 6 sts + 3 which was used in Part 1 of the CAL.
Only use this version if you are resizing the original blanket to a different size based on the stitch pattern multiple of 6 sts + 3.
If you are making the full-size blanket using 165 stitches please use this version: Wonder Blanket CAL Part 2.
You will also find all the stitch tutorials, links and abbreviations for this stitch pattern in the post: Wonder Blanket CAL Part 2.
Alternate Size Version: Wonder Blanket CAL Part 2
Note: Count the ch 1 as a stitch because you will be working into the ch 1. Do not count the dc5tog or FPdc5tog as stitches – you do not work into the decreases.
R1 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the next st; 5 dc in the next st, dc5tog, ch 1, *5 dc in the next st, dc5tog, ch 1 *.
Repeat from * to * to the last st (remember the turning ch from the previous row counts as a stitch) and work 1 dc in the last st. [do not count the decrease(s)- dc5tog – as stitches]
R2: ch 3 (Note: the ch 3 counts as 1 dc st), turn; work 5 dc in the next ch, * skip the next decrease, work FPdc5tog, ch 1, work 5 dc in the next ch *. Repeat from * to * across to the last 2 sts. Work 1 dc in each of the last 2 sts of the row [do not count the decrease(s) – FPdc5tog – as stitches]
R3: ch 3 (Note: the ch 3 counts as 1 dc st), turn, 1 dc in the next st; * work 5 dc in the next ch, skip the next decrease,
work FPdc5tog, ch 1 *. Repeat from * to * across to the last st. Work 1 dc in the last st. [do not count the decrease(s) – FPdc5tog – as stitches]
R4: Rep R2
R5: Rep R3
R6: ch 2 (counts as 1 hdc), 1 hdc in the next st, 1 hdc in the ch 1, sk the dec, 1 dc in the next st, *1 hdc in next, 1 sc in
each of the next 2 sts, 1 hdc in the next st, 1 hdc in the ch 1, sk the dec st, 1 dc in next st** Rep from * to ** across to the last 5 sts. 1 hdc in the next st. 1 sc in each of the next 4 sts. [do not count the decrease(s) as stitches]
The alternate version will not look exactly as pictured above – the skip 1 stitch for the first Row was eliminated in order to make the stitch multiple work.
Hi 🙂 This version works with a stitch pattern multiple of 6 + 3. If you chained 328 stitches initially at the end of R1 you would have 327 (because you lose 1 stitch for the turning chain); which gives you 327 stitches – 3 = 324 divided by 6 = 54 so yes it works 🙂 At the end of Mistie’s section you should have 327 stitches and it will work with my instructions.
I am doing the Wonder Crochet Blanket CAL alternate size. I confirmed with Mistie on Part 1 in regards to changing my stitch count in order to cover a king-size bed. So I have a stitch count of 328. When crocheting your first row, I ended up with 5 dc, leaving 1 stitch for the final double crochet. But I think, the way I am reading the pattern, that I should end with dec5 together leaving 1 stitch for the final double crochet. Will your row 1 work with 328 stitches? Thanks.
