First, a little bit more about these lovely hooks:
Fire and Ice: Introducing 2 never before seen Furls Collector hooks
December 2015 Special, Limited Edition Bocote and Kingwood hooksThis holiday season, Furls is excited to announce the release of two bold and beautiful wooden hooks we’ve never released before: Bocote and Kingwood. These extraordinarily gorgeous woods are being brought to life in a limited run of only 175 hooks, each.Bocote is a treasure of a wood from a shrub that grows in rocky Mexican soils. Its intense growing conditions give Bocote some of the most unique grain patterns in the world – Daliesque lines of dark black and brown jump, spike, and play in erratic patterns on top of warm sandy yellow grain.
Not a single piece of Bocote comes our way that is visually dull – every Bocote hook we have in stock is a treat to behold, speckled with hurricanes, eyes, and Richter patterns of tumultuous grain.Bocote plays tricks on your eyes.Bocote is a wood of extreme character.Kingwood is different.
Where Bocote is a fireball, Kingwood is a reserved scholar. With a breathtaking spectrum of purple hues, Kingwood invokes elegance, subtlety, and sophistication. Because it grows in the deep, rich soils of Brazil, Kingwood trees shoot straight up, very quickly, and its grain lines are almost perfectly horizontal. Its eveness of grain and deep violet coloring made it the most expensive wood in furniture making in the 17th century, hence its first names “Prince’s Wood,” later evolving to “Kingwood”. If I’m perfectly honest, the pinstripe purple Kingwood hooks are a little bit difficult to crochet with at first. Why?It’s almost impossible to put them down and stop looking at them! Seriously, the gentle gradients of purple, violet, indigo, orchid, and, suddenly, almost infinitely deep black, cannot be ignored! A Kingwood hook will sit in your hand, gently whispering to you like a siren, beckoning you to indulge, just for a moment, in its beauty. Both Bocote and Kingwood are medium to light weight (imagine something between Olivewood and Tulipwood, but not as dense Blackwood) and take an amazing polish. This is something I still can’t get over; looking at the surface of these collectors hooks is like looking into the eyes of a mythical creature: mesmerizing. Together, they make an excellent pair. Combining contrasting colors, visual textures, and histories, a set of Kingwood and Bocote hooks will be the cherry on top of your Furls collection.Last time we released a limited edition wooden hook, our October Pink Ivory hooks, all 250 sold out in less than 48 hours. If you’d like to begin your collection or add to , act soon before they’re gone!Special note for collectors: we’ve just set up our collectors page where you can see all the special, limited edition hooks we release over the years as well as the ones you collect (indicated by a red star).Take a look and indulge in a little holiday cheer with a Kingwood or Bocote hook.Enjoy!
and now, here is your chance to win one of these hooks for yourself! Furls has very generously provided 1 Kingwood and 1 Bocote Hook to be given away!
