99 Snowflakes, Volume 2 includes a beautiful selection of pretty snowflakes – perfect for your Christmas Tree, to decorate your gifts and your home.
The instructions in the book are written for Cotton Crochet Thread (size 10) and the recommended hook is size 6 (1.8 mm).
The book is organized from Easy+ to Intermediate level patterns and each design is unique.
Here are some of the beautiful designs included:
I love the Video Technique links included in my eBook version – for sections where a tutorial has been created to assist with the pattern you just “click” and you are taken directly to the video which will walk you through the stitch, or technique.
The videos are also available online to view at a specific link for those who purchase the paper version!
I have never made a snowflake before. As a total beginner I was pleased to find a detailed explanation is included to help you with Starching (including the supplies you will need!) and Blocking your finished projects.
Blocking templates for a 6-point and 12-point snowflake are included for you to photocopy (or print out) and use to properly block your snowflakes. You really need to use these!!
I tried three of the patterns myself this week – #8, #89 and #34.
The instructions were very easy to follow. I had all three snowflakes crocheted within an hour.
The blocking and starching require a bit more patience – at least for me!
I had some trouble pinning my intermediate level snowflake to the correct shape.
Our printer was out of ink so I was unable to print the templates to use as a guide. I tried my best to move the stitches into position and to open up the picots – now I know why it was an intermediate level pattern!
Tips from me –
Find stainless steel pins with balls on the end – not just straight pins! AND get short pins! The only stainless steel pins available where I shopped were long straight pins and they were very hard to grab a-hold of and very difficult to pin through the snowflake into the blocking board I was using. I bent at least a dozen trying to push them into the mat.
Add the stiffening agent to one snowflake at a time as they do start to dry quickly!
You can take a peek below at my first snowflakes – they aren’t perfect but all new skills take practise right?
