Let’s Learn A New Crochet Stitch! This week we will teach you how to crochet the crossed double crochet stitch. You can use this stitch to make this pretty crossed double crochet afghan block !
Stitch: Crossed Double Crochet Stitch

Yarn: Red Heart With Love
Hook: 5.00 mm
Stitch Multiple: multiples of 2 (add 2 for the starting chain)
Finished Size when blocked: 8″ x 8″ square
Abbreviations: Xdc – crossed double crochet (see Special Stitches), st -stitch, sts – stitches, ch – chain, sc – single crochet, dc – double crochet
Crossed Double Crochet Stitch (Xdc): this stitch is worked over 2 sts: skip the next st, 1 dc in the next st, now go back to the skipped st and work 1 dc – this creates an “X” or, a Crossed Double Crochet Stitch.
R1 (right side): Skip 3 chs (these 3 chs count as a dc st), Xdc across to the last ch (you will have 9 Xdc stitch sets), 1 dc in the last ch of the row, ch 1, turn (20)
R2: Skip the 1st st, 1 sc in each st across, remember to work 1 sc in the turning chain at the end of the row, ch 3, turn (20)
R3: Skip the 1st st, Xdc across (you will have 9 Xdc stitch sets), remember to work 1 dc in the turning chain at the end of the row, ch 1, turn (20)
Repeat R2 and R3 – five more times. (20)
Do not finish off – proceed to Edging.
Keep the right side of your work facing you and ch 3 (these 3 chs count as a dc st); work 1 dc around the row end of the current row, work 1 dc in the sc row end, work 2 dc around the row end st of the next Xdc row, repeat down the row ends – working 2 dc around the row end st on the Xdc rows and 1 dc into the row end st of the sc rows. 1 dc in the corner of the beginning ch row. You will have 21 dc in total (counting the ch 3 at the beginning). ch 1, turn
Work 2 dc in each space between the Xdc sts and 1 dc in the corner st for a total of 21 sts along the starting chain row, ch1 turn
Work 2 dc around the row end st on the Xdc rows and 1 dc into the row end st of the sc rows. 1 dc in corner st. You will have 21 dc in total, ch 1, turn
Work 2 dc in each space between the Xdc sts and 1 dc in the corner st for a total of 21 sts
sl st to the 3rd ch of the initial ch 3 of the border, finish off and weave in ends (or use the invisible join technique to finish off). Total of 21 sts.
Block to size.
