Changing colours when working a single crochet stitch:
- insert hook into the st indicated, yarn over hook, pull up 1 loop. Now drop the colour of yarn you are working with and pick up the new colour of yarn: yarn over the hook, and pull through the 2 loops on your hook
You always change your colour on the last yarn over of the stitch you are completing – unless a pattern indicates otherwise. So the above information can be applied to any stitch; just complete the stitch as normal but on that last yarn over, switch the yarn colour.
This will make the ‘hat’ (the top of the stitch) the same colour as your current row and give you the new colour to work the next stitch (in the photo below you can see this in the ch 1 stitch at the end of the row).
