Disclosure: I am part of the Kidoodle.TV blogger program with Mom Central Canada and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. The opinions on this blog are my own.
Please note, my post is specific to Canadian residents (excluding Quebec); however, Kidoodle.TV is also available for U.S. Residents – you can learn more about the U.S. options and pricing here: Kidoodle.TV U.S.
Let me tell you about Kidoodle.TV – and how you can enter for your chance to win a FREE 1-year subscription to Kidoodle.TV!!
Whether you are concerned about the amount of time, or the type of programming your children are exposed to Kidoodle.tv, is developed with you in mind. You have the ability to curate which shows are available to your son/daughter, based on ‘suggested’ age-related content; or by manually picking and choosing the shows you want them to have access to. You can also set up time-limits for viewing for each child through the Parents Room options.
Each child is set-up with their own profile and they can access their content by clicking on their designated icon. They get to choose which show they want to watch and the episode. They feel like they have total control of what they watch – and you get the satisfaction of knowing it is safe for them to watch, there are no ads and you can determine the length of viewing time without having to intervene and have the dreaded ‘discussion’ about their ‘time being up’.
To set up the time limits, in the Parents Room, close the “lock” icon on the right beside the title “Passcode Protection and Time Limits”. Then before giving your child the iPad, set-up the time limit you would like to allow them to have for viewing. The minimum time allotment is 15-minutes. When their time is up, it simply flips back to the sign-in screen with a little pop-up indicating “Sorry!! Your viewing time is up.”
To remove the time limits you just unlock the “lock” in the Parents Room.
Some of the programs included for Canadian viewers are:
- The Adventures of Chuck & Friends
- Animal Mechanicals
- Bo on the Go
- The Busy World of Richard Scarry
- Littlest Pet Shop
- Inspector Gadget
- George of the Jungle
- Mona the Vampire
- My Little Pony
- Pound Puppies
- Paddington Bear
- Strawberry Shortcake
- Yo Gabba Gabba
- National Geographic
There are also shows for older boys & girls – like Transformers, G.I. Joe and Jem.
Darla and Drew loved being able to choose what they would watch and when they found out Mommy and Daddy loved to watch George of the Jungle it became a fast favourite viewing choice! Darla also watched Littlest Pet Shop and Inspector Gadget. Drew often chose Yo Gabba Gabba and he loves Caillou.
More programming is always being added – Darla and Drew are quite satisfied with the options they have available – children love repetition so once they watch an episode, they often go back and watch it again.
Why do I LOVE Kidoodle.TV – because my children love it. They will sit beside each other and watch different shows, at the same time! They have amazing concentration skills and can watch and listen to their own show even sitting side by side.
I know what they are watching is safe – I do not have to worry about them backing out of the show I select (like on our other subscription service) and choosing something else instead. Not all children’s shows are ‘safe’ (in my opinion) to watch by children at all levels of development. For example G.I. Joe is not something I want my 3-year old watching – until he is older. Other subscription services lump all shows that might be enjoyed by children/family into the same screen and movies I would only let teenagers watch often show up in the mix – my curious children often want to browse and choose different programs and I honestly do not want them watching movies meant for teenagers at this point in their development. They are very impressionable and absorb information like sponges!
Another reason I love it – honestly – it gives me a small break from the constant chatter and noise and I can have a quiet cup of tea !
