When I first saw this pattern I knew I wanted to crochet it – and instead of using lavender to stuff my buddy I wanted to try using a Scentsy scent pak. My sister sells Scentsy and I already knew which one I wanted to put inside.
I chose Sheer Innocence – my favorite scent. This is the written explanation taken directly from the Scentsy Website: Sweet and youthful: lush orchid, green freesia, and wild violet infused with a trace of spicy ginger.
I suspect you can tell, just by the scent I chose, that I was making this one for me…
I used Bernat Handicrafter Cotton and a 3.75 mm hook to hook my buddy. Since I used WW (worsted weight) yarn my buddy ended up being a bit larger than Vanja’s and I substituted 8-mm safety eyes. The finished measurements for my buddy are height (top of bald head to seated bottom) 8.25″, width (belly base) 4.25″, belly/body height 5.00″, leg length 3″ and arm length 2.75″.
The flower patch is completely free-form.
I inserted the scent pak after Round-18 and put polyfil stuffing around it (to centre it inside the body).
I found Vanja’s pattern very easy to follow – I had no questions with the instructions – my only hint is to remember everything is worked in continuous rounds (except the hood); even when you start with a number of chain stitches. The legs, arms and body are worked around the initial chained stitches (just like you do for the soles of slippers).
You may also want to note, the hood has a folded cuff design – so if you want a hood without a cuff you may want to eliminate 3 or 4 rows when you are crocheting.
My plan for my buddy is to have her sit on my night-table – to scent my room with my favorite scent 🙂
I also want to make one for the van – I just need to check to make sure, our hot summer temperatures won’t cause the plastic balls inside the Scentsy scent pak to melt!
I LOVE this little munchkin – and apparently so do my children as she keeps leaving the bedside table for snuggles about the house.
This was a simple and very fun project – it would make an excellent gift – even to sit in the corner of a baby’s crib. My littles both have Scentsy Buddies in their beds (thanks to their loving Aunt Caitie) with different scent paks. Even after a year-and-a-half, the scent paks still have scent!
