Crochet Southwest Spirit: 20 Patterns That Capture Southwest Style
The instructions are clear and easy to follow, with helpful charts to guide you. Susan mixes different crochet techniques, so the projects look amazing but are still doable for many skill levels. The earthy tones and Southwestern patterns give each piece a timeless look.
The peaceful color palettes used in these creations were chosen from the natural landscapes and colors of the mesas, deserts, forests, rivers, skies and mountains of the Four Corners (Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Arizona). The photos in the book are stunning, showing off the practical and durable projects in beautiful desert settings.
If you love bold, colorful patterns or are drawn to Southwestern art, this book is a great choice. It’s more than just a pattern book—it’s a way to create meaningful pieces and enjoy the warmth of Southwest style in your crochet projects.
Crochet Southwest Spirit begins with an introduction to the American Southwests, it’s beautiful landscapes, geography and Southwest Textile Traditions.
As an artist in the San Juan mountains of southwest Colorado, I honor the Ute, Pueblo, and Diné Navajo people as the traditional custodians of the land I live on. I hold the fiber arts traditions carried on by generations of Southern Ute, Ute Mountain, Diné Navajo, and Hopi families in great respect, and share what I know about the history of the artists who came before me as a way to pay my respects, spread southwestern culture, and serve my community.

I loved reading about Navajo Weaving, the Churro Sheep, Navajo Sheepherding, Indigenous-Made Yarn, Spanish Weaving Traditions and the Fiber Festivals of the Four Corners. It brings a deeper dimension to the patterns and projects included in the book.
